Lunar Eclipse in Shatabhisha Nakshatra
August 27, 2026 at 9:18 p.m. PDT
A partial lunar eclipse will occur on the evening of August 27th. The eclipse will be visible across the eastern Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
It takes place in Shatabhisha Nakshatra. The name Shatabhisha means “One Hundred Physicians” or “One Hundred Medicines,” and its power is the power of healing. Its deity is Varuna, the god of the oceans. Because of this connection, this eclipse may continue to draw attention to political and military tensions around important waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the South or East China Seas.
For most people, this is a good time to pay closer attention to health and to take practical steps to improve it. It may be especially helpful for letting go of addictive habits or avoiding situations that encourage them. Shatabhisha also reminds us of the value of healthy space in relationships. Distance does not always weaken a relationship; sometimes, as the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Like all eclipses, this is a time for reflection. Listen closely to your body and allow it to tell you what it needs. Health practices can also become a form of spiritual development. This might include an Ayurvedic or yoga retreat, a healthier diet, exercise, meditation, or simply taking quiet time for self-reflection. The six days before and after the eclipse are better suited to inner work than to beginning a major new venture.
