Full Moon in Anuradha

There will be a Full Moon in Anuradha Nakshatra on Sunday, May 31st at 1:45 a.m. PDT. Anuradha is a nakshatra connected with friendship, cooperation, agreements, treaties, devotion, and the ability to create mutually supportive relationships. Its deity is Mitra, the god of friendship and alliances, and its shakti is the “power of devotion.” The name Anuradha can be translated as “another Radha” or “a follower of Radha,” symbolizing loyalty, dedication, and heartfelt commitment. Full Moons represent a surge or culmination of energy within the larger lunar cycle, bringing greater visibility and intensity to the themes already set in motion at the previous New Moon.

The Larger Lunar Cycle

In my article on May 15th at the time of the New Moon in Krittika Nakshatra, I mentioned that this entire lunar month — lasting from that New Moon until the next New Moon on June 14th — would likely reflect the fiery symbolism of Krittika. Krittika is associated with Agni, the god of fire, and with themes of heat, aggression, conflict, weapons, and purification through fire.

Over the last two weeks, six major nations have stood out because of the sharp increase in military tension and conflict involving Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Lebanon, Iran, and the United States. This is interesting in light of the mythology connected with Krittika Nakshatra. In the ancient story, the Krittikas were the seven wives of seven great sages. Agni, the fiery god of heat and passion, seduced and inseminated six of the seven Krittikas, leading to the birth of Kartikeya, the god of war. Symbolically, the story links the themes of heat, passion, and fire with the creation or amplification of warfare.

This is not meant as a judgment about blame, morality, or who initiated violence, but simply an observation that these six nations appeared to become especially activated militarily during the first half of this lunar month. They were not the only places where conflict existed, but they were among the clearest examples of the surge in fiery Krittika themes. The symbolism of Krittika also appeared more literally through severe heat waves, destructive fires, and even the tragic fire in a girls’ dormitory in Africa, reportedly set by eight girls, reflecting the broader themes of heat, fire, anger, and impulsive reactions associated with Agni and Krittika.

The Surge of the Full Moon

Against this backdrop, the Full Moon in Anuradha represents a surge of energy connected with relationships, diplomacy, alliances, and the desire to restore cooperation after conflict. In many ways, the push toward ceasefires, negotiations, or attempts to create agreements in places like the Middle East reflects the natural expression of Anuradha’s symbolism emerging at the center of this fiery lunar cycle. However, this Full Moon is strongly aspected by Mars, the warrior planet, currently transiting fiery Aries. As a result, the desire to create peace and cooperation may be repeatedly disrupted by anger, impatience, military reactions, or the continued desire to fight. Agreements may be attempted and then broken, or negotiations may become unstable under pressure.

On the personal level, this Full Moon highlights friendship, teamwork, loyalty, and devotion to the people or goals that matter most to us. It can be a powerful time for reconnecting with others, strengthening relationships, or recognizing where greater cooperation and commitment are needed. Yet the strong Mars influence can also increase emotional reactivity, frustration, and arguments. The challenge of this Anuradha Full Moon is learning how to maintain steadiness, cooperation, and meaningful connection in the middle of an emotionally charged and reactive environment.
