New Moon in Magha
There will be a New Moon in Magha nakshatra on Friday, August 30th at 3:37am Pacific time. The shakti of Magha is the power to leave the body. This is connected to the soul departing the body at the time of death and entering the realm of the spirit. So it makes sense that the deity that rules Magha is the Pitris, the ancestors, the sum total of all the spirits who have left the body and gone to the other side. The New Moon here is and excellent time to reflect on your connection (or unresolved issues) with your parents, grand parents and anyone who went before you in your family line, especially those who have died.
This is especially true for the 24 hours before the new Moon. When the Moon becomes exact and then begins to wax (increase its light) this begins a new lunar month, one that can be devoted to the ancestors. Half way through that month, starting on September 13th and culminating on September 28th, there is a two week period, called Pitru Paksha, during which Hindus in India honor their ancestors, by doing special rituals. You don't have to become a Hindu or do rituals to participate in this wave of healing energy. Anything that can help you to create a better relationship with your departed family members can have a monumental effect on your life.
Think about it. Most of us have secrets embedded in our family history that have trickled down to us and have affected our lives, starting with our parents and then going back through the generations. Astrologically, the periods mentioned here can facilitate your healing process. Take some time during this next month to think about your connection to your family, to the past, and to your ancestors. You might find that you get some deeper insights.
