New Moon in Magha

New Moon in Magha

There will be a New Moon on Tuesday August 18th at 7:41pm pst, in Magha nakshatra. Magha is symbolized by a throne room and its shakti is the power to leave the body. Magha's deity is the pitris, the collective spirits who have departed the body and gone to the spiritual realm. This new moon has a number of connotations. First, a new moon is the beginning of a lunar month, so it gives us an idea of what might happen in the next 29.5 days. On one level this is a period that obviously reflects the increased deaths due to the Corona Virus, as souls depart the body. On another level, this is a great time for introspection, promoted by the realization that life is temporary. This new moon also took place in a fire sign, one day after Mars, the ruler of the fire element, entered Aries, a fire sign. To me, this looks like the beginning of a very nasty fire season. Astrologers take omens into consideration, and as I write this, a fire has just begun about 2 miles from my house, as the crow flies. It's the product of 100 degree weather, wind, and night time lightning strikes along the deeply forested banks of the South Yuba River. So far, it doesn't look like it will get out of control, but it's just a matter of how windy it gets. For me, it is a reminder to review my evacuation plan, just in case. For the world in general, it is an omen to stay on the friendly side of the fire element. Close your eyes, go within, and experience the cooling waves of bliss radiating from your own being.
