New Moon in Krittika

There will be a New Moon in Krittika nakshatra on May 22nd at 10:39am pdt.  The new Moon marks the beginning of the lunar month.  The symbolism of the nakshatra in which the New moon occurs shows the type of energy that will be developing during that month.  Krittika is ruled by Agni, deified fire.  Its shakti is the power to refine or purify like fire.  Krittika's symbol is a razor, an ancient technical instrument that suggests precision.  So this lunar month is a good one for refining things and bringing them to a greater level of precision.  Agni is the digestive fire as well, so this is a great time to work on building your digestive energy by paying attention to your diet and not overeating.  The month favors technical work, mental work that requires precision, and any type of fire ritual or offering.  Here's a technique that you can try during this period:  If you want to quit smoking, quit swearing, quit eating chocolate, or quit anything else that you aren't ready to give up yet, then before you do that thing each time, visualize a fire.  Then say the mantra Om Aagney Namah and visualize your self offering that action into the fire, allowing it to instantly be purified.  You might say this is a "sure fire" way to eventually give it up!
