Saturn in Sagittarius

Saturn in Sagittarius

On January 26th, Saturn moves into Sagittarius.  On one level, this could bring relief, since its transit in Scorpio over the last couple of years was so volatile.  During that time, we saw an increase of frustration, upheaval and change throughout the world.  Much of this came to us, courtesy of Saturn's transit of Scorpio.  So it make's sense that, as Saturn enters Sagittarius, some of the pressures of the past two years could begin to diminish.  At least that is something that makes sense on an individual level. Without looking at your individual horoscope, it  is impossible to tell exactly what Saturn is affecting.  However,  if you have been experiencing ongoing challenges in a particular area  of life, and if those difficulties began shortly after November of 2014, when Saturn entered Scorpio, then there is a strong possibility that they may have been related to the that transit.  So you might feel some relief when Saturn moves to Sagittarius.

Saturn's transit in Sagittarius will definitely have its positive points.  It will be good for Saturn, at least.  Saturn is the planet of business and industry. So this period will generally promote business and material success. It could  also be good  for many individual horoscopes.  However, even though Sagittarius is good for Saturn, Saturn is not particularly good for Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is the sign of dharma, cosmic law, right action, justice, truth, and spirituality.  Sadly, these qualities are liable to diminish in the world in the next couple of years.  That trend will be magnified by the transit of Jupiter, the planet of dharma, as it slowly makes its way towards the sign of Capricorn, where it will rendezvous with Saturn in December of 2020.  Capricorn is the sign of Jupiter's debilitation, and the conjunction with Saturn, there, will cinch matters, depressing the qualities  of dharma in more  powerful way. So as we get closer to 2020, the qualities of dharma will gradually diminish.

The net effect of dharma decreasing is the increase of entropy, chaos. This is nothing new, and it is also the natural result of the increase of the world population.  As the population goes up, disorder and chaos increases.  Ambition, greed, anger, and a whole host of lower desires and emotions dominate.  People want their desires fulfilled at any cost, even if they have to lie or cheat to get what they want.   We have been experiencing this decline in dharma for many years.  2020 is only a period when that decline becomes more pronounced.

As depressing as it sounds, this is only the macroscopic view of Saturn in Sagittarius.  On the individual level, this transit will be 'business as usual' for most people.  Saturn is always transiting somewhere in your chart, and whatever house it is transiting, it is encouraging you to take responsibility for the things signified by that house.  If you work on that area over the next couple of years, you will improve it.  If you don't, you will feel some pressure or discomfort.  So the key is to get to work.

Here is a brief description of how Saturn in Sagittarius might affect you during the next few years.  It will be in Sagittarius between January 26, 2017 and January 23, 2020, except for the period  from June 21, 2017 - October 26, 2017,  when Saturn will be  back in Scorpio.  When you read the predictions for your Sun Sign, be sure to check that your birth date is correct for that sign.  Remember, in Vedic astrology we use a sidereal zodiac, which means that the birth dates for the signs are different than in Western astrology.  If you happen to know  your  Vedic Moon sign, Sun sign, and/or your Arudha Lagna sign, then you can read the results given for those signs as well.

Vedic Sun Signs

Apr 14 - May 14 (Aries)     Saturn is transiting  your  ninth house during this time, where it could produce a desire to make  efforts towards higher education.  This is also a house related to travel, which could mean that you might travel with some practical agenda attached, or with some work to get done in the process.  On the other hand, it could produce travel for pleasure, but if  it does, there could be delays or obstacles during related to the trip.  This is a great time to reorganize your finances, with a purpose of accumulating wealth over time instead of simply spending money day to day. The period will help you build your financial resources  if you work at it, and it is also supportive to your career

May 15 - Jun 14 (Taurus)  During this period, you will be likely to change or redefine your career or work.  This period could also bring other types of changes in your life.  One of the best things you can do is to stay on the positive side of change. For example, take a yoga class, or any other type of class for self-improvement.  This is also a good time to get your money organized, especially finances that are related to partnership, marriage, inheritance, or business.

Jun 15 - Jul 15 (Gemini)    This period will focus on relationships of different kinds.  It challenges you to take personal responsibility for improving your relationships.  During this time you could sometimes feel like your boundaries are being tested by others.  This is life's way of telling you that you need to clarify your boundaries in your marriage, romantic relationship, business partnership, or simply with friends.  The period tends to be better for business relationships, which are normally based on clear contracts, rather than for personal relationships, where sentiment can sometimes cloud judgement.  In either case, this is a good time to learn to say no when you don't feel comfortable with the balance of things.  Clarifying your agreements is the best way to clean up your relationships so that they can be mutually beneficial and so they can last.  If you have a good agreement with someone, and if you both are willing to live up to your part of the agreement, then both of you benefit.

Jul 16 - Aug 16 (Cancer)   During  this time, you will work hard, and probably get a lot done. Saturn is in your  sixth house, where it is challenging you to make an effort.  You might find that your work ramps up and consumes more of your time.  If you have employees, then this can be a time when you might need to clarify, organize and set boundaries for your workers.  On the other hand, this is also a transit that challenges you to take care of your health. It could start with a feeling like it's time to get back on your diet or exercise routine.  Or there could be some bodily discomfort that gives you a wake-up call to get your act together with your health.  In any case, this is a period that will improve your health if you simply make an effort to work on your health and stay on your diet and exercise routines.

Aug 17 - Sep 16  (Leo)  During this period, you could put your attention on education, if you are a student.  Saturn challenges you to focus your mind.  This is also a period which is likely to create some changes or redefining for  your work or career.  If you are a creative type, then this is a good time to focus on building your technique rather that relying on creative inspiration.  On the romantic level, it is more about the commitment of relationship than the romance.  However, this period, especially the part between September of 2017 and September of 2018, could be quite beneficial for relationship.  It could take your existing relationship to a deeper level, or just be beneficial for your partner life  in some way.  Or it could produce a new relationship, if you are not in one.  If you have children, this is a good time for setting boundaries, and asking them to step up to take more responsibility.

Sep 17 - Oct 16  (Virgo)  This period puts Saturn in your fourth house.  This could produce a desire to work on your home in some  way, and it could even produce a change of residence.  It is good time for designing or remodeling.  The fourth house is also related to your vehicle, so this is a time to put extra attention on maintenance.  It could be a period when your mother is either under some extra  pressure, or when she is working harder.  On another level, this is a great time to work on laying foundations for your life and for your career.  Some of the things you start in this period could produce fruits over a long period of time and culminate in 14 years, when Saturn goes into your tenth house.

Oct 17 - Nov 15 (Libra)   During this time, you are being challenged to take responsibility for your way of communicating.  So this is a good time to think about what you say before you say it.  You don't want your words to come back to haunt you, so don't just blurt out anything and everything you think.  On another level, this is a great time for gaining knowledge, focusing and concentrating.  This could take the form of going to school, or it could simply mean that you could be dealing with a great deal of information at work.  In any case, through making consistent effort to communicate responsibly, concentrate, and deal with information effectively, you will make steady progress in your work, profession or educational direction.  By communicating in a responsible, clear, and respectful manner, your personal relationships will also do well.  On the other hand, if you decide to flake out in these departments, Saturn could produce some uncomfortable reminders to get you back on track.

Nov 16 - Dec 15 (Scorpio)  Saturn is passing through your second house.  This is a great time for getting your finances organized.  Sometimes this transit starts with a feeling that finances are limited in some way.  Don't buy into this limitation illusion.  Instead, realize that Saturn is only coaxing you to clean up your act, get lean and mean, and work hard to improve your material condition.  If you work at your money, your money will improve over the course of this period.  This could also get you to spend money on your  home, or make money through real estate or  the sale of a home.

On another level, this period could motivate you to get your act together with your diet.  Saturn is challenging you to get rid of things that aren't good for you, and to develop a more healthy approach to food.  So if you have been thinking about dieting, or just getting rid of your evening candy bar, then "make hay while the Sun (or Saturn) shines."

Dec 16 - Jan 13 (Sagittarius)    During this period you could feel like it is time to take personal responsibility for your life plan, in general.  Saturn has been passing through the twelfth house over the past few years, giving you the feeling like your best-laid plans were not turning out the way you expected.  Now, it is in your first house, giving the reins back to you, which could make you feel more like you have control and like your plans can succeed.  That said, this period can also be associated with a sense of delays, obstacles or pressures, as you work hard.  This is a good time to be patient, and to get into your routines.  Saturn is challenging you to stay on your routines of health, diet and finances, especially.  Make a list every morning, and just get to work, checking-off the items on the list.  Over the course of the period you will feel stronger and stronger.

Jan 14 - Feb 12 (Capricorn)   Saturn is transiting your twelfth house now.  This is the house of meditation, reflection and introspection, so it is challenging you to take responsibility for your inner experience.  This might make you feel like your ordinary, materialistic plans are not going the direction that you expected.  That's because you are being asked to use your intuition now.  Remember, if your plan takes a detour, the new route often offers a new opportunity.  Be open to letting your plans evolve.  This is a good time for developing the attitude of a hitch hiker, and feeling your way with your intuition.  You can be successful now if you are willing to take life as it comes.  And if you want to really get into this period and make it great, then meditate regularly.  Don't know how?   Then learn! But don't skimp on the effort.  Get a good teacher who really knows what he or she is doing.  Regular meditation will even make your practical life work better now.

Feb 13 - Mar 13 (Aquarius)  During this  period, you could feel like redefining your goals.  This is good time to think long-term.  Don't be put off if what you want to achieve takes a long time or involves a lot of effort.  Remember, any big achievement is only a collection of many simple actions.  Set a long term goal now and start working towards it one day, and one activity, at a time.  On another level, this period could get you to work with teams or groups.  It is a period that sometimes can get a person to take extra responsibilities in groups, like managing or organizing.  It can also suggest an occasional need for setting boundaries with friends, learning to say no when you are not comfortable with what friends ask of you.  On the other hand, it is also a time to be respectful and patient with your friends. Making a consistent effort to carve out time to socialize can help you to improve your connection with others now.

Mar 14 - Apr 13 (Pisces)    During  this  transit, Saturn is passing through your tenth house, the house of karma or  action.   This period could get you working harder and producing more in your career.  It could even possibly produce a change of career or employment.  It will at least get you to reevaluate and reassess your career situation.  It is a great transit for being productive and it tends to make a person more of a manager or organizer.  Normally this is a good time for a person's career, bringing success and opportunities.  Don't let yourself forget to make room for your relationships, though.  All work and no play will put you out of balance.    If your job situation is not serving you, however, or if your performance has not been up to par, this period could get you to change or redefine your work, or it could produce some  temporary delays or obstacles.
